Dental Restorations: What They Are and How They Help

Dental restorations can help a patient in many different ways to get back the look of their teeth that they want, and also preserve their natural teeth structure which will be the best for their oral health. Having different options that will help in different scenarios always gives patients a few options to choose from.

The most important thing with dental restorations is to have an open and honest conversation with the dentist. This will help them know what your goals are and they can guide you to make the best decisions. Overall, the patient should get a smile that they can be proud of again and fix any dental issues that need to be repaired.

Types of dental restorations

When it comes to dental restorations there are quite a few different options for someone to choose from. It will heavily depend on what their current oral health situation is, and what the dentist feels would be the most beneficial for them. However, working with the dentist will make the decision-making process easy and help the patient feel knowledgeable about whatever decision they make.

Dental restoration #1: Fillings

Fillings are one of the most used and popular types of dental restoration. Because it keeps the natural tooth root and shape in place, it is one of the least invasive, too. By having a filling completed, it gives the tooth the things it needs to not continue deteriorating but also helps keep it in place and in good condition.

Dental restoration #2: Crowns

Dental crowns are a tooth-shaped cap that can be placed over teeth to make them look and feel like the natural tooth is back. By having this cap cemented in place, the patient can use the tooth like normal, including brushing and flossing.

Dental restoration #3: Bridges

Dental bridges are used a bit differently than other restorative measures. However, they are a great way that someone can replace one or multiple missing teeth. If a patient has one or multiple teeth missing that are in a line, then a dental bridge may be the best thing that someone can do to replace the teeth.

The bridge and anchors are fastened on the healthy teeth on either side of the gap and create a natural looking bridge of teeth that a person can use like normal. Most people are shocked at how easy it is to have done and are thrilled with the results!

Dental restoration #3: Dental implants

Dental implants are an excellent option for restoring teeth. Because the post is fastened directly into the jawbone, the stimulation that would come from a tooth root is transferred down the metal spoke. This helps someone avoid any jawbone deterioration from happening and they do not have to worry about a sagging jawline or sunk in cheeks.
